Marenco Swisshelicopter Ltd. and Archangel Systems, Inc. have executed a Letter of Intent to evaluate Archangel’s new AHR75 AHRS for the SKYe SH09 installation.

From Martin Stucki, Marenco CEO, “Given Marenco’s mantra for “high and hot” performance in SAR missions, we require an AHRS that is lightweight and cost effective but with stellar performance in shallow and high bank situations.  High bank windup is intolerable for us.  Archangel has accelerated their design and certification cycle to match our internal timeline.  If our testing goes well, we will have a winner in the AHR75.”

Marenco will combine the AHR75 with Archangel’s AHR150A-2 MSU for a complete AHRS solution. Software in both components is DO-178B Level A certified and the DO-160E categories are ideal for composite bodies.  The AHR75 will be certified under the FAA’s new C-201 TSO for AHRS.Michael Greene, Archangel CEO stated, “We are very excited to have Marenco exercising the AHR75.  It was designed specifically for aircraft like the SKYe SH09 – a single shipset scenario where performance, reliability and compatibility with the avionics already on the install list are critical.”Bench testing will begin immediately at Marenco’s Niederurnen, Switzerland facility with flight test slated for mid 2013.

The Boeing Company has selected the AHR150A ADAHRS from Archangel Systems for Project Julius.  Under the program, Boeing UK will modify 38 Mk2/2A Chinooks into the Mk4/4A configuration and eight Mk3 Chinooks into the Mk5 configuration—providing essentially new aircraft to the UK MOD.

A dual ship set of Archangel AHR150A ADAHRS provides the attitude, heading and air data solutions to a Thales-based cockpit.  The deciding feature of the AHR150A in Boeing’s evaluation process is its low-noise inertial vertical velocity measure—critical to heavy lift aircraft operations.

With the first round of Julius flight testing successfully completed in 2012, the Julius program office has stated, “This is a huge accomplishment for the Boeing-UK program and a great compliment to Archangel Systems.”

From Michael Greene, Archangel CEO, “Project Julius is a technically exciting program.  We’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Boeing staff here in the US and in the UK on this installation.  The level of collegiality and mutual competence has made the work a pleasure.”

The AHR150A is a new paradigm ADAHRS that combines MEMS sensors with DO-178B Level A software and rigorous DO-160E categories consistent with high vibration environments and wide temperature variations.  The AHR150A also is approved for composite body aircraft.  To support fly-by-wire applications, data latencies are low to maintain adequate flight control loop stability.

Aerosonic's OASIS Standby Instrument

Aerosonic Corp. Executive V.P., Mark Perkins, announced today that Archangel Systems’ AHR50 AHRS has been selected for the OASIS standby instrument system. “We saw opportunity in the standby market and had all of the technology in-house except the AHRS. Archangel and its AHR50 are a good match for us. They have both the product and the expertise to work at the systems level with our engineers. We expect to have TSO approvals in place during Q2, 2013.”

The AHR50 is designed as an embeddable AHRS in that a portion of the DO-160E categories are certified with the customer providing EMI / EMC and power input protection. Software is certified to DO-178B Level A. If needed, Archangel can also provide support for the customer’s TSO submission package.

From Michael Greene, Archangel’s CEO, “Aerosonic’s standby strategy is precisely why we developed the AHR50. It makes short work of the customer’s AHRS development and certification efforts. They’ve done a beautiful job with the product and should capture a strong market share.”
