Archangel Systems Inc. announced today it has received FAA TSO C4c, C5f, C6e, C88b and C106 approval to manufacture its family of Air Data Attitude Heading Reference Systems (ADAHRS). The ADAHRS family consists of the AHR150A and AHR300A with maximum gyro output rates of 128°/s and 256°/s respectively. Each system is composed of two boxes: an Inertial Sensing Unit (-1) and a Magnetic Sensing Unit (-2).

These ADAHRS meet all the requirements of TSO C5f for an Unslaved Direction Gyro (using all solid state MEMS sensors), C4c for Pitch and Bank, and C6e for Gyro Stabilized Magnetic Heading. The systems also meet the requirements of C106 for an Air Data computer as well as C88b for Altitude Reporting Equipment, using an 11 wire discrete interface compatible with most transponders.

Developed originally for fly-by-wire aircraft, Archangel's ADAHRS have 100% DO178b Level A operating software in all five processors used in both the ISU and MSU. The ISU has multiple, redundant, dissimilar processors computing both air data and attitude data to ensure data validity. Data are presented on eight ARINC 429 busses (4 Lo Speed and 4 Hi Speed).

The ISU measures 4.25" by 4.25" by 5.25", weighs 3.1 lbs and operates from 16 to 36 VDC using less than 20 Watts maximum. The MSU is approximately 3" round by 0.75", weighs 0.5 lbs and is powered by the ISU.

Archangel Systems Inc. announced today it has received FAA TSO C9c approval to manufacture its Automatic Flight Control (AFC001). The AFC receives ARINC 429 data and converts it to 2 wire, isolated DC outputs, suitable to drive most autopilot servos/servo amps.  The AFC also creates error signals for heading, roll, pitch, and altitude to enable attitude and altitude hold functions.

The AFC was developed originally to interface Archangel's Air Data Attitude Heading Reference System (AHR150A) to aircraft with legacy autopilot servos/servo amps.  Archangel's AFC has 100% DO178b Level B operating software. The AFC monitors input ARINC 429 data as well as internal functions.  It has two fault outputs: ADAHRS fault and AFC fault. Data outputs of the AFC are Roll Angle, Roll Angle Error, Pitch Angle, Pitch Angle Error, Roll Rate, Yaw Rate, Heading Error, Altitude Error, True Airspeed & Lateral Acceleration.

The AFC measures 2.63" (H) by 5.73" (L) by 5.25" (W), weighs 2.2 lbs and operates from 16 to 36 VDC using less than 10 Watts maximum.

Archangel Now FAA Certified Repair Station

Archangel Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has received an Air Agency Certificate (CRS# 9AYR875B) upon finding that its organization complies in all respects with the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations relating to the establishment of an Air Agency, and is empowered to operate an approved Repair Station.

“We are excited about the certification and what it means for our customers,” said Kitty; Greene, President of Archangel Systems.   “This was the next goal in our company’s mission to provide quality product support for our customers.”

All of Archangel’s technicians complete extensive training in areas such as: Human Factors, Technical Data, Situational Awareness, the Repair Station Manual, and Facility Security courses, in order to enhance the overall level of quality that Archangel delivers to their customers.

The recently certified repair station will be headed by Bob Caudle, Production Manager.

Archangel Systems Inc. announced today it has received FAA TSO-C4c & C6e approval to manufacture its AHR50 Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS).  Despite extreme size and weight budgets of only 2.5” x 2.0” x 1.4” & 75 grams, the AHR50 core software is certified to DO178B Level A—identical to the certification level in our flagship AHR150A (ADAHRS).  According to Dr. Michael Greene, CEO of Archangel Systems, “the AHR50 is the most compact Level A AHRS in the marketplace.” 

The AHR50 can operate as a standalone Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) providing body and inertial angles & rates with a maximum gyro rate of + 150°/s & an altitude ceiling of 52,000 feet.  When connected to Archangel’s AHR150A-2-A Magnetic Sensing Unit (MSU), the AHR50 becomes a complete AHRS with both attitude & heading output data.  Information on the AHR150A-2-A is available at www.archangel.com.

The AHR50 was designed for two missions.  The first is for embedded applications where the host system provides EMI / EMC & input voltage protection.  With Level A software & DO-160E certifications for remaining categories, the AHR50 is ideal for primary flight system designs.  Second, impending FAA equipment requirements for UAS platforms operating in the domestic airspace will require some level of software certification.  Since both the AHR50 & the AHR150A-2 MSU carry Level A certifications, the combined system meets all possible scenarios. 

All customer data interfaces are via a single RS232 port with input & output data defined in the AHR50 ICD (User must confirm this is latest Rev. prior to use).  The input port has two functions.  First, during setup, commands for in-field magnetic compass calibration, orientation (8 options) & lever arm corrections are defined.  Second, during operation, directional gyro (DG mode) heading select & compass slewing are received through the RS232 port.   In addition, the ICD supports an air data message input.  If received, the AHR50 blending algorithms can achieve FOG-equivalent attitude performance & echo the air data to downstream systems. Software customizations for other sensor inputs can be developed by Archangel.
