With locations in Ft. Lauderdale, Burbank and the Van Nuys airport, Velocity Aerospace is a world class provider of aviation component repair and overhaul (MRO) services, installation and upgrade for aerospace systems, as well as component exchange programs to both operators and maintainers. Expanding its upgrade and modification projects is part of the growth strategy for 2014 and beyond.

Velocity Aerospace President Dennis Suedkamp stated, “We welcome the Archangel family of products into the Velocity Distribution and Installation teams. The Archangel product lines truly move Velocity and our aerospace customers rapidly into the forefront of the industry with these high quality, forward thinking and highly reliable components. The weight savings and cost savings along with the high reliability provide a very rapid return on investment.”

Velocity Aerospace has a global customer base of commercial air transports, corporate business aircraft, freight carriers, regional airlines, general aviation and helicopters. They also serve as an authorized stocking distributor for several aircraft instrument and component OEMs and industrial instrumentation OEMs.

From Bill Dillard, Archangel’s Director of Emerging Technology, “Archangel has done good work to date with aircraft OEMs. We are now teaming with dealers interested in modification projects and STCs. Velocity’s MRO experience provides tremendous visibility into upgrade opportunities. This agreement is an excellent fit for both companies.”

The Archangel ADAHRS and AHRS use MEMS sensors and sophisticated blending algorithms to yield "FOG-grade" performance at greatly reduced size, weight, power, and cost. The AHR800 is designed to operate in the extreme environments of supersonic aircraft with maximum indicated airspeeds of 850 knots. Bridging the gap between modern AHRS and legacy autopilots, the AFC001 provides efficient automatic flight control while converting ARINC 429 attitude data to dc control voltages.

Archangel Systems was recently presented a Governor’s Trade Excellence Award by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley. The award was presented to eight Alabama companies that are excelling in international trade.

Governor's Award“Alabama products are among the best in the country, and the companies recognized today show how successful Alabama products are reaching the global marketplace," Governor Bentley said. “In 2013 Alabama exports totaled $19.3 billion which represents a 57% increase since 2009.  The Export Alabama Alliance is connecting Alabama companies with exciting new opportunities, and that’s good business for this state.”

“The companies honored here today make up an important component of the state’s engine for growth, retention and job creation,” Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield said.  “A sustained increase in exports plays a key role in Accelerate Alabama, the state’s strategic plan for economic development.”

The Governor’s Trade Excellence Awards Program was established in 2005 to recognize Alabama manufacturers and service companies for excelling in international trade.  The objectives of this program include identifying Alabama’s successful exporters, promoting exports as role models to the Alabama business community and increasing awareness of the impact of exporting on Alabama’s economy.

Archangel’s catalog of  “mission critical” FAA certified Air Data, Attitude, Heading Reference Systems (ADAHRS) and AHRS are key components for clients including the Boeing Company,  Australian Defence Force, Erickson Air-Crane, and MD Helicopter. Archangel also supplies sensors which are embedded into products sold by other companies, including Aerosonics.

Archangel’s direct export sales increased from 1% of revenue in 2010 to 66 % in 2013.  In coming years, Archangel expects the largest share of its revenues to come from exports.  Export markets, as of January 2014, include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Panama, Switzerland, and United Arab Emirates. New export markets currently being targeted include France, Spain and South Korea.

Archangel Systems, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract to study the feasibility of a technical and forward-thinking solution for optimized vehicle loading: the Continuous Estimation of CG (Center of Gravity), Inertial and Loading (CECIL). The investigation will determine the sensors and algorithms for continuous monitoring of both CG and load. Simulated measurements and algorithms extracts total load, load distribution, CG in three dimensions, and how all three change throughout the mission, both during the loading process and during operation. Advanced algorithms detect signature changes in a vehicle’s dynamics in real time which are mapped to CG shifts and weight changes. This investigation compares optimized conventional methods of load sensors for weight estimation to the proposed inertial method to show a full picture of feasibility. Furthermore, algorithms project the vehicle dynamics forward in time and input the future vehicle state to a 3-D model for the vehicle’s stability along with the CG and loading measures. The model computes future rollover risk and alerts the crew before rollover is imminent.

The Boeing Company has selected the AHR150A ADAHRS from Archangel Systems for Project Julius.  Under the program, Boeing UK will modify 38 Mk2/2A Chinooks into the Mk4/4A configuration and eight Mk3 Chinooks into the Mk5 configuration—providing essentially new aircraft to the UK MOD.

A dual ship set of Archangel AHR150A ADAHRS provides the attitude, heading and air data solutions to a Thales-based cockpit.  The deciding feature of the AHR150A in Boeing’s evaluation process is its low-noise inertial vertical velocity measure—critical to heavy lift aircraft operations.

With the first round of Julius flight testing successfully completed in 2012, the Julius program office has stated, “This is a huge accomplishment for the Boeing-UK program and a great compliment to Archangel Systems.”

From Michael Greene, Archangel CEO, “Project Julius is a technically exciting program.  We’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Boeing staff here in the US and in the UK on this installation.  The level of collegiality and mutual competence has made the work a pleasure.”

The AHR150A is a new paradigm ADAHRS that combines MEMS sensors with DO-178B Level A software and rigorous DO-160E categories consistent with high vibration environments and wide temperature variations.  The AHR150A also is approved for composite body aircraft.  To support fly-by-wire applications, data latencies are low to maintain adequate flight control loop stability.
